Chamber Music is an ongoing series of sound installations derived from recordings of the empty rooms where they are presented. These recordings of "silence" are filtered to extract subtle resonant tones from the very quiet ambient room noise. The resulting drones are then gated to allovv only peaks above a certain volume to be heard. No other sound sources, processing, or instruments are used. These pieces are usually played to permeate the entire exhibition space, making the sound source ambiguous. Instead, this installation features directional sound -one tone heard in each speaker and the listener placed at the center of a lively sonic universe that is kinetic yet spatially contained.
